I am one of those people who needs a creative outlet or I go nuts. I wouldn’t say I’m terribly artistic, but I dabble in a lot of things that help me express myself. I write poetry, I used to paint (didn’t like it, wasn’t good), I drew (not good there either), I garden, I sew, I dabbled in felt crafts until my hands began to ache, and I know how to renovate a VW bus like no one’s business! Lately, I’ve been interested in trying something new. I’ve always dreamed of learning to do mosaic tile art. Whether functional or decorative, I’ve always longed to give it a go.
This winter is dragging on at a very slow pace and so I decided when we were at the library, I would check out some books on how to do mosaic tile. I have devoured both books. I feel inspired! My girls and I went to the craft store so I could get a few tiling materials. I have a project I’m currently working on, but it’s top secret. It’s going to be a gift. But let’s just say, it’s making me happy. I’m using vitreous glass. It’s gonna be spectacular!
My biggest desire is to create art with discarded items. Things like bottle caps, buttons, sea shells, broken glass, pottery or dishes. I told my kids that when they are out and about to start looking on the ground for interesting things. My 17 year old merely shrugged. Yeah, right.
My girls tend to be more into helping me achieve artistic greatness. It’s going to be fun to see what I can come up with.
when you do come up with your art, post a picture here!
Will do!
